What to look for when shopping for a keyboard:
- Always try to buy as close to 88 keys as you can. Look for at least 61.
- Look for polyphony - this means that as you can play multiple keys at one time. (keyboards listed above have this feature)
- Look for touch response/touch sensitive - this means that it will sound louder when you push harder, and also sound quieter when you push lighter. (keyboards listed above have this feature)
- Look for weighted keys - this means keys will have resistance like on an acoustic piano (the Yamaha P45, P125 and Casio models listed above have this feature)

There are lots of websites offering free sheet music that you can download and print, usually items that are public domain. Here are some sources for free online sheet music:
As of 2022, in the United States, certain types of music fall into the public domain, meaning they are no longer protected by copyright law and can be freely used by anyone. Music that is in the public domain typically includes works whose copyrights have expired or were never copyrighted in the first place. Here are some examples of music that is no longer copyright protected in the US:
1. Traditional Folk Songs and Hymns - Many traditional folk songs and hymns, whose origins date back centuries, are considered to be in the public domain. These include well-known tunes such as "Amazing Grace," "Oh! Susanna," and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
2. Classical Music - The compositions of classical composers who passed away long ago, such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Johann Sebastian Bach, are generally in the public domain. This includes iconic pieces like Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik, and Bach's Brandenburg Concertos.
3. National Anthems and Patriotic Songs - National anthems and patriotic songs, including "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful," are typically in the public domain, as they are considered to belong to the public heritage rather than to any individual or organization.
4. Certain Early Jazz and Blues Recordings - Some early recordings of jazz and blues music from the early 20th century are now in the public domain due to the expiration of their copyrights. This includes recordings by artists like Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and Duke Ellington.
5. Works with Expired Copyrights - In the US, copyright protection typically lasts for the life of the author plus 70 years. Once this term expires, the work enters the public domain. This means that music created by composers who died more than 70 years ago, such as George Gershwin and Scott Joplin, is no longer under copyright protection.
When available, Dallas Piano Academy purchases studio licenses of copyright protected works, and makes use of copyright free materials from the public domain to share music with students. We are home to an extensive music library of many out of print and hard to find music collections.
